Dr. Sonia Samtani joined Pacific Heart in 2019. She was born and raised in Potomac, Maryland to physician parents. Upon completing Holton - Arms, a college-preparatory school in Bethesda, she was awarded a seven year accelerated BS/MD at the George Washington University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
She continued her training in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University. She was awarded the Critical Care Award for Senior Resident in the Department of Medicine for epitomizing the ideals of empathy and excellence in critical care medicine. Dr. Samtani completed her Cardiology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine. She was awarded Fellow of the Year all three years of her training, and was elected as Chief Fellow in cardiology. She continued at UC Irvine for interventional cardiology under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Morton Kern, author of the Cardiac Catheterization Handbook.
Dr. Samtani has a strong focus on patient and medical education. She has authored multiple chapters in three different cardiology textbooks regarding stress testing and interventional cardiology.
She has contributed to the California chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), serving as the Chief of the Fellow in Training Committee for Southern California. Her contribution to the ACC was recognized and she was awarded an Excellence in Cardiology Fellowship Award as well as the Future Leader of 2018 Award.
She has a particular interest in women’s cardiac health and complex coronary interventions with radial access.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Samtani enjoys traveling, playing tennis and swimming.
