Pacific Heart Institute participates in clinical
trials to be able to provide our patients an opportunity to enroll
in studies that offer promising new therapeutic options. We have
participated in many clinical trials that were pivotal in defining
the current standards in the management of hypertension, congestive
heart failure, and heart attacks. Some of the trials that we are
conducting are listed below.

Efficacy and Safety of Aliskiren and Aliskiren/Enalapril Combination
on Morbi-Mortality in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure
This randomized clinical
trial studies whether aliskiren, alone or in combination with
enalapril, can equal or better the efficacy of enalapril alone in
patients with chronic heart failure. Aliskiren is a direct renin
inhibitor already approved by the FDA for the treatment of high
blood pressure. Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor established in the
treatment of heart failure. Dr. Richard Wright
directs this program at Pacific Heart Institute.
PROTECT AF (WATCHMAN
®
Left Atrial Appendage System for Embolic
PROTECTion
in Patients with
Atrial
Fibrillation)
This randomized study to compare the efficacy
of the WATCHMAN®
Left Atrial
Appendage System against the blood-thinning medicine, warfarin,
in preventing strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation is
now closed to enrollment.
CAP Registry (
Continued
Access to
PROTECT AF)
Eligible patients with atrial fibrillation undergo the
implantation of the
WATCHMAN®
Left Atrial Appendage System and are followed in this study for
safety and efficacy. Pacific Heart Institute, with
Dr. Shephal Doshi as the Principal
Investigator, is one of the few centers to offer this study.
